Port Viridia woke up wrapped in silver mist today, which can only mean one thing:
the Fog Festival has officially begun.
This is Veridisia’s most beloved (and most confusing) annual tradition. Locals gather along the waterfront, wearing bright scarves so their friends can spot them through the fog. Street vendors sell “Fog Cakes,” which taste better than they sound — warm pastries filled with citrus cream and dusted with powdered sugar that somehow always blows away before you can eat it.
Tonight, hundreds of glowing lanterns will drift out to sea.
The mist makes them look like tiny stars sinking into the water. Every year, someone claims one of the lanterns winked at them. Milo says it’s probably just the wind… but who knows.
Bands perform from raised platforms along the boardwalk.
The sound gets swallowed by the fog and comes back softened, like a lullaby echoing through the harbor. Visitors always say it’s the most calming festival they’ve ever experienced — once they stop bumping into people.
A few opening-day standouts:
The festival runs all week, and Milo will be reporting every odd, beautiful moment.
